Supply and fit

What engine replacement supply and fit includes

When an engine has failed badly, for example after a broken timing chain, a seized crankshaft or a cracked block, repairing it may cost more than it is worth. An engine replacement swaps it for another engine that matches your car.

With supply and fit, the engine and the labour come from us. We confirm the exact engine code from your registration, source a suitable unit, remove the failed engine, transfer the parts that need moving across, fit the replacement and check it. You get one quote and one warranty, instead of buying an engine online and then looking for a garage to fit it.

Your options

Which replacement engine is right for your car?

There are two main routes, and we explain both with your free quote.

  • Reconditioned engines: an engine that has been stripped, inspected and rebuilt with new parts where needed, before it goes into your car.
  • Used engines: a second-hand engine from another vehicle, suited to some cars and budgets. We talk you through what that means for your car.

If your own engine is worth saving, an engine rebuild may be the better choice. We will say so if it is.

The process

How our engine replacement works

  • Quote. Send your registration and what happened. We confirm the engine code and give you a free quote.
  • Source. We find the right engine for your car and agree it with you.
  • Remove and fit. The old engine comes out and the replacement goes in at our partner workshop in Rainham, East London, or in Peterborough.
  • Check and hand back. The engine is checked, your warranty starts, and you collect the car or arrange to have it returned.

Customers are welcome to visit the Rainham workshop during the job. Call ahead and we will arrange a time.

Makes

Land Rover, Range Rover and Jaguar engine replacement

Our specialist focus is Land Rover, Range Rover and Jaguar, where engine replacement is a common job on higher-mileage cars. We also replace engines in BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Ford, Peugeot and Citroen models, and we look at every make. Priority goes to cars from 2015 onwards.

Whatever the car, we match the replacement engine to your registration and engine code, so it fits and runs as it should.

Before you decide

Is engine replacement better than a rebuild?

There is no single answer, but a few questions usually settle it.

  • How bad is the damage? A seized engine, a cracked block or a broken crankshaft often makes replacement the sensible route.
  • How long will you keep the car? If you plan to keep it for years, a reconditioned engine or a rebuild is usually the better long-term choice than a used engine.
  • Is the rest of the car sound? If the body, gearbox and suspension are in good order, saving the car with a replacement engine is often far better value than buying another one.
  • How quickly do you need it back? Tell us if the car is your living. We will explain which route is likely to be quicker for your engine.

We go through these with you when we quote, and we will tell you if replacement is not the right call.

What gets transferred

What happens to the parts on your old engine

A replacement engine often arrives without some of the ancillaries that bolt onto it. Depending on the engine, parts such as the turbocharger, injectors, sensors, manifolds and brackets may be moved across from your old engine, or replaced if they are worn or damaged. We check what your car needs and include it in the quote, so there are no surprises.

We also look at the things that commonly fail alongside an engine, such as coolant hoses, the radiator and the oil cooler. If they are contaminated or damaged, fitting a new engine without dealing with them can shorten its life, so we will tell you before the work starts.
