When engine repair makes sense
Not every engine problem needs a full strip-down. If the fault sits in one area, such as a leaking gasket, a failed sensor, a worn timing component or a damaged turbo, a targeted engine repair can put it right for less work than a rebuild.
The key is finding the real cause. A warning light or a rough idle can come from several places, so we inspect before we quote. If we find that the damage goes deeper, for example scored cylinders or a spun bearing, we tell you straight away and explain the options: a full engine rebuild or an engine replacement, supplied and fitted.

- Head gasket failure: white smoke, coolant loss, overheating or oil mixed with coolant.
- Timing chain or wet belt wear: a rattle on cold start or a timing fault code. See our timing chain replacement page.
- Oil leaks and oil consumption: blue smoke, burning smells or a low oil warning.
- Turbo and boost problems: loss of power, whistling or limp mode.
- Misfires and rough running: shaking at idle, hesitation or a flashing engine light.
- Overheating: a rising temperature gauge, steam or coolant on the ground.

How it works
Our engine repair process
You send your registration and the symptoms. We confirm the engine and talk through what might be happening. The car is inspected, and we explain what we found and what the engine repair will involve, with a free quote. Nothing is done until you agree.
The work is carried out at our partner workshop in Rainham, East London, or our partner workshop in Peterborough, depending on where you are and what the job needs. Customers can visit the Rainham workshop, so call ahead if you want to see the car. When the repair is finished the engine is checked and your chosen warranty starts.

Engine repair or engine replacement: which is right?
A repair fixes a single fault. A rebuild restores the whole engine when the block is worth saving. A replacement swaps the engine for a reconditioned engine or a used engine when the original is beyond sensible repair.
We are honest about which one fits your car. Sometimes the cheapest-looking repair is a false saving if the engine has deeper wear, and sometimes a rebuild is more than you need. We set out the options with your free quote so you can decide.
